Skin Rejuvenation: Electronic Skin Microneedling
e-Skin Micro-needling, also referred to as collagen induction therapy, is the gold standard in micro-needling.
It’s a pen-like hand piece provided with a disposable, single-use needle head incorporating 12 to 13 needles (33 gauge) which are adjustable at any depth increment between 0mm and 2.5mm
The treatment is aimed at stimulating the body’s own collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity and scarring such as that caused by acne.
How does it work?
The treatment introduces a series of fine, sharp needles into the skin. The needles are attached to a cartridge at the end of an automated device which is moved over the surface of the skin to create microscopic channels within the papillary dermal layer of the skin where collagen and elastin fibers are located. This damage stimulates skin cells such as keratinocytes, fibroblasts and growth factors, encouraging the production of new collagen and elastin: the skin becomes thicker, plumper and more youthful.
A variety of topical serum products which have a hyaluronic acid base to target hydration, pigment stabilization, skin lightening, scar correction and stretch mark minimization are used during treatment, to avoid dry application.

Electronic Skin Micro-needling should only be used by trained medical professionals
What is it used to treat?
e-Skin Micro-needling is used for improving fine lines and wrinkles on the face, neck and décolletage, to reduce the appearance of surgical, acne or trauma scars anywhere on the body. It can also be used to treat stretch marks. It is suitable for all skin types.
How long does it last?
Noticeable results will be seen after the first treatment. Lasting and more significant results will begin to become apparent after 4 to 6 treatments. Your skin should continue to improve over the next 6 – 12 months following completion of the treatment program, in combination with topical aftercare products. Maintenance or top-up treatments may be recommended to continue long-lasting results.
Side effects & risks
The treatment, performed at a very shallow needle depth, is considered to be painless. Treatments whereby the needles enter the skin at a depth of over 0.5mm may require a topical local anaesthetic cream to be applied before the procedure, making it virtually pain free.
Erythema or facial redness will be noticeable immediately after treatment and will last for 12 to 48 hours, with some minor bleeding and bruising possible, depending on the aggressiveness of the procedure (i.e. the length of needles used for the indication being treated). Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment.
You should apply skincare products following treatment and in the weeks between planned treatment sessions.
Not to be used in
Medical skin needling treatment is suitable for most skin types.
It is not suitable for patients who:
• Have used Roaccutane (isotretinoin) within the last 3 months.
• Have open wounds, cuts or abrasions to the skin.
• Have had radiation treatment within the last year.
• Have a current outbreak of herpes simplex (cold sores) or any other infection or chronic skin condition in the area to be treated.
• Are pregnant or breast feeding.
• Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scars or poor wound healing.
If you are having other cosmetic treatments such as dermal fillers it is advisable to either wait for a week after having the filler injections before starting with an e-Skin Micro-needling treatment program, or alternatively have the e-Skin Micro-needling treatment first, leaving a minimum of two or three days before having the dermal filler treatment.
The time for a treatment session will depend upon the size of the area being treated; an individual session may last between 30 and 60 minutes.
A treatment program would normally consist of 4 – 6 treatments every 4 weeks apart for skin rejuvenation, 6 treatments every 6 weeks apart for acne scarring and 4 – 8 treatments every 4 – 6 weeks apart for stretch marks.
Cost of treatment
The cost of treatment depends on the area(s) being treated, and can range from approximately £150 – £300 per session for a full face treatment.
